Top 10 Celebrities Who Happily Quit Hollywood

Show business is certainly appealing for all sorts of reasons, from fame and fortune to busy schedules and packed social calendars, but for some celebrities it just proves to be too much. Today we focus on some of the great actors, actresses and otherwise famous Hollywood individuals who quit the movie business and never looked back.

1. Gene Hackman

Knowing when to quit is a gift very few people possess, and Gene Hackman is certainly one of those people.

In 2004, after his last film to date, “Welcome to Mooseport”, with Ray Romano was released, Hackman announced he was retiring in his hometown Santa Fe, New Mexico.

And that’s exactly what he did. Many actors try to retire only to make a comeback a few years later, but not Gene.

Since his retirement, he has written multiple novels and hasn’t made a single film. When asked in 2011 whether he’d consider returning to the film industry he said, “If I could do it in my own house, maybe, without them disturbing anything and just one or two people”.

Hackman was an actor for 50 years, and his most notable films include Mississippi Burning, The French Connection, for which he won an Oscar, The Royal Tenenbaums, and many, many others.
