The upcoming Aaliyah biography movie has a great deal of controversy surrounding it for some time now, and it seems it hasn’t even reached its peak yet.
Lifetime network is planning on making the film as authentic as it can get, and that’s the main cause of the hype. “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B” is going to be as close to the deceased artist’s life as possible, which includes her alleged relationship with R. Kelly!
To recap, rumors were flying around that the late singer was married to her then-music producer, R. Kelly, respectively. That doesn’t seem much of a shocker until you realize that he was 27 and she was 15 when they allegedly got married! That’s not only illegal, it’s just plain wrong.
We can only hope that the movie still has some elegance to it and that it would be done tastefully, especially considering the touchy topic of Aaliyah and Kelly’s marriage.
Debra Martin Chase, the executive producer of the movie, stated that they’re taking precautions when it comes to this part of the singer’s life and that “”Aaliyah’s personal and professional relationship with R. Kelly will be explored with care in the film as we set out to depict her life with the utmost respect. Above all else, it’s our hope to inspire an entirely new generation with her music and larger-than-life talent.”
Larger than life talent, well, honestly, we’re not so sure about that, but the tragically deceased singer did have a few major hits, including “Rock The Boat”, “Try Again” and “More Than A Woman.”
She died on August 25th, 2011 in a plane crash.
