Wild child Miley Cyrus has been in the news constantly in recent months due to the risqué behavior and adult antics that have shocked some of her longtime fans. Is Cyrus coming apart at the seams or simply carrying out a strategic publicity plan to keep herself on the front page?

While we may never know the answer to that question, there are several other fascinating facts about Miss Cyrus available for fans who just can’t get enough of her.

1. Her real name is Destiny Hope Cyrus

Cyrus was born in Nashville, Tennessee on November 23, 1992. Her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Leticia Finley, actually named her Destiny Hope Cyrus when she was born. Miley is a shortened form of her childhood nickname “Smiley” and the middle name, “Ray”, is in honor of her paternal grandfather, Ronald Ray Cyrus. She legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus in January 2008.

2. She is a true representation of a Sagittarius

Cyrus’ astrological sign is Sagittarius. Sagittarians love freedom, fun and the good things in life. They are also flirtatious, quick to get to the point and socially outgoing. Sagittarians hate being told what to do, boredom and monotony. Cyrus fits her astrological profile to a T.

3. She grew up on a farm in Franklin

Cyrus spent her childhood in Franklin, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville. The 500-acre farm where she lived provided ample space for her to explore and enjoy outdoor activities in the country.

Cyrus’ first real claim to fame came when she assumed the starring role in the Disney show “Hannah Montana.” Cyrus’ real dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, played her character’s father in the series. The fact that millions of little girls idolize Cyrus as “Hannah Montana” has led to criticism of Cyrus as she branches out into projects of a more adult nature.

7. Her famous performance at the 2013 MTV Awards

Cyrus scandalized some and thrilled others with her over-the-top sexy dancing during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Scantily clad and wearing a foam rubber finger, Cyrus twerked her way to fame in a short performance with singer Robin Thicke, son of actor Alan Thicke. Television commentators kept up a running dialogue discussing her performance for weeks after the actual event.


8. Her big love Liam Hemsworth

Cyrus dated Australian actor Liam Hemsworth from 2009 to 2013. The couple announced their engagement in 2012, but later broke up in 2013. Hemsworth was Cyrus’ co star in “The Last Song.”

9. Cyrus deals with a medical condition

Cyrus has tachycardia – a medical condition that presents itself when the heart beats in excess of 100 beats per minute during rest.

11. At age 17 Miley made the Top 20 Richest Female Singers of All Time list

The “Celebrity Net Worth” website estimates Cyrus’ fortune to equal $150 million. When she was just 17 she made the Top 20 World’s Richest Female Singers of All Time. At that point, she was the youngest woman on the exclusive list.
