Those who follow Madonna on Instagram got a shocking surprise last week, when she flashed them a photo of her hairy armpit. Many say that this time, Madge has simply gone too far.
Madonna captioned her hairy armpit selfie with the tagline, “Long hair…… Don’t Care!!!!!! #artforfreedom #rebelheart #revolutionoflove.”
If her tagline is to be believed, it seems that the Queen of Pop has returned to the decade when free love, and free flowing hair, were everywhere.
Everyone can agree that Madonna has always had a rebel heart, and a love for freedom, but many of her followers on Instagram seem to be of one mind, that the picture was simply disgusting, and something they would rather not have seen.
Real or Make Believe?
Another group of her fans seem to think that this is simply Madonna being Madonna (remember that highly inflammatory tweet she posted to Twitter a while back, calling her son “the N word?”). They believe that while this may or may not be a simple publicity stunt, it may also not even be real.
Several people have pointed out that celebs are known for getting waxed, full body waxes at that, and perhaps Madonna simply Photoshopped a picture for some publicity. After all, it has been a few weeks since she was in the news.
Back in 2011, Madonna did an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, and the topic of body hair came up. She said that in high school she refused to remove any of her body hair.
Madonna said that, “Going to high school, I saw how popular girls had to behave to get the boys.” And Madonna knew she never wanted to be those girls, saying, “I knew I couldn’t fit into that. So I decided to do the opposite.”
Madonna shared that, “I refused to wear makeup, to have a hairstyle. I refused to shave. I had hairy armpits.” She also said that, “The boys in my school would make fun of me. Calling me hairy monster. You know, things like that.”
So there is a pattern there.
Could they have been armpit wigs? Madonna is definitely not the first to shock fans with armpit hair. Several years ago, Lady Gaga wore armpit wigs during a concert, so maybe this is where Madge got the idea.
