Biography
Juan Antonio "Chi-Chi" Rodriguez is a name engraved in golden letters in World Golf Hall of Fame. He started his career as a humble caddy in a golf field. His dreams, as a small boy, were solely around golf. At a tender age of 12, he could get a decent score in the game. In 1965, Denver Open paved the way to his greater achievement in golf. In 1973, he rose up to play for the Ryder Cup team. Rodriguez represented Puerto Rico in twelve world cup tournaments. He won the Hispanic Recognition award in 1986. He was awarded the Hispanic Man of the year award in 1988.
He played for the Champions Tour in 1985. Between 1986 and 1993, he was at the top of his career as a golf player winning almost 25 tournaments. He had many feathers in his cap like winning the same event consecutively for three years and eight continuous birdies before the victory in the 1987 Silver Page Classic. Bob Jones Award, the highest honor bestowed by the United States Golf Association was awarded to him in recognition of his unsurpassed contribution in golf. He was the first Puerto Rican to get inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
His brief meeting with Mother Theresa must have inspired him to establish his own Chi-Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation at Glen Oaks Golf Course in Clearwater, Florida. The main aim of the foundation is to help young children who need assistance after a brief exposure to small crimes. A 1935 born Puerto Rican, "Chi-Chi" Rodriguez, has left a remarkable impression in the game of golf. The PGA Tour wins from 1963 to 1979, has elevated him as an ace golfer of America. His dedication to golf has given him victories with regard to the Pepsi Mixed Team Championship Bahamas Open.
