Jerry Lee Lewis was born on September 29, 1935. He was originally from Ferriday, Louisiana, USA. Jerry was an American rock and roll star, a pianist and a songwriter. Lewis who also was a country music singer was famous by the nickname The Killer. At an early age of eight Jerry Lee started playing the piano, which his parents had bought for him by mortgaging their farm. He was expelled from the God's Institute Bible School in Waxahatchie, Texas.
Jerry Lee Lewis married Dorothy Barton in 1952, but soon deserted her as he got an opportunity to play the piano at Haney's Big House. Jerry then tied the knot with his second cousin Myra Gale Brown who was 13 years younger to her and she was the daughter of his bass player. Lewis' personal life was invisible for the public until the reporters found out about his third marriage, during a British tour. This news caused tumult and after three concerts the tour had to be cancelled. Lewis almost disappeared from the music scene and went back to America after this outrage. Lewis stopped recording even thou he was under the contract with Sun Records. He started playing in small beer joints and clubs at $100 per night form $10,000 which he use to get form a night concert. Nobody stood by him and he had a few friends left whom he trusted. During the mid-1960s his once again became famous in UK and Germany. 'Live at the star Club' is considered as greatest live rock worldwide.
In 1956 Lewis harked back to Sun Studios and his first session he recorded 'End of the Road' and 'Crazy Arms'. Both these songs were a super-hit. The Million Dollar Quarter jam session was recorded on December 4 where Jerry Lewis played piano for Carl Perkins. Elvis Presley walked in while Johnny Cash was supporting Perkins. These were the top three performances given by Lewis in the year 1956.
From the start Lewis was a heavy drinker and later he got more addicted to drinking and drugs after Myra divorced him in 1970. Lewis personal life was full of tragedies. His 19-year-old- son died in a car accident, later his second son died after he got drowned in swimming pool accidentally. Lewis was hospitalized in 1981 for bleeding stomach ulcers. Because of his violent behavior he accidentally once shot his bass player not even realizing that the gun was loaded.
With author Charles White, Jerry Lewis wrote and published his autobiography Killer in 1993.In 1994 he signed a contract with Warner Brother and recorded new material. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Lewis #24 on their list of 100 Greatest Artist of All Time in 2004.Lewis received a Lifetime Achievement Award by The Recording Academy on 12 February, 2005.
