Jennifer Ehle was born on 29th December 1969, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is the daughter of Rosemary Harris and John Ehle. She started studying initially at the North Carolina School of Arts and later on moved to study at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Broadway debut of Jennifer Ehle was in the stage production The Real Thing, this role won her a Tony Award in the category Best Performance by a Leading Actress. Some of her other broadway acts were The Philadelphia Story with Kevin Spacey, Macbeth as Lady Macbeth with Live Schrieber.
