Beck has maintained an irregular solo career sine the past 25 years and never tried to venture into the commercial aspect of the music industry. Because of this, he has attained widespread critical disapprovals from the guitar playing community. He has tried not to be tied to a single pattern if music and experimented with blues rock, heavy metal, and jazz fusion.
Early career
Jeff Beck started his career working as a session guitarist. In 1965, he was selected to join Yard Birds and after he joined, the group gave a number of hits. His unpredictable mood along with the unreliable nature of amplifiers, resulted in many freak accidents where he ended up breaking his own guitars. He left Yard Bird after 2 years, due to some health problems.
Jeff Beck Group
Jeff founded his own group - Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart on vocals, Ron Wood on bass, Nicky Hopkins on piano, Micky Waller on drums and himself on the guitar. He produced two albums - Truth in 1968 and Beck-Ola the following year which were a huge hit.
Later career
Since the past few years, Jeff Beck has given a number of new albums and also featured on one track on Queen, along with guitarist Brian May. Beck made a cameo appearance in the movie Twins starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
Jeff Beck continues to perform shows on a regular basis, including opening for B.B. King in the summer of 2003, backed by Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas.
Jeff has a unique style of playing guitar and unlike other performers; he does not relies much upon the electronic effects delivered by the modern instruments. He is able to produce a large variety of sounds by using his finger tips and thumbnail.
