Jeanette MacDonald was an American singer and actress. She was best remembered for her role in the musical films during the 1930's. Her most famous character roles were with Maurice Chevalier in the movie Love Me Tonight, The Merry Widow and with Nelson Eddy in Naughty Marietta. Other films like Rose Marie, and May time were also among which were remembered on her part. She was also nominated for Best Picture Oscars in 1943 and also won three Gold Records.

Jeanette MacDonald was born on June 18, 1903 in Philadelphia at her 5123 Arch Street home. Her parents Daniel and Anna Wright MacDonald had two more daughters and Michelle and Cathy. At an early age early age, Jeanette learnt tap dancing from Al White, and her mother who was a opera record singer and a dancer. Jeanette MacDonald always performed at church and school functions, and began touring in kiddies shows since an early age.
Marriage
On June 16 1937, Jeanette MacDonald married blond film actor Gene Raymond in a traditional ceremony at Wilshire Methodist Church in Los Angeles. Her bridesmaids included Ginger Rogers and Fay Wray. Raymond was also a songwriter, and MacDonald introduced two of his songs in her concerts. According the book The Golden Girls Of MGM by Jane Ellen Wayne, Gene Raymond engaged in numerous affairs with men and often hit Jeanette. Gene's fans have always disputed these claims.

Jeanette MacDonald' s first film - The Love Parade was a huge hit, directed by Lubitsch and co-starring Chevalier, and was a landmark of early sound and musical films. Jeanette MacDonald was lucky as her first film received a Best Picture nomination whch gave her immense popularity. Jeanette MacDonald also starred in The Vagabond King (1930), Let's Go Native (1930), Monte Carlo (1930) were some other movies that were regarded as highly classical movies of those times. Jeanette MacDonald contributed a number of films that proved a huge success and made her a star.
MacDonald suffered in her later years with heart trouble and died on January 18 1965.
