Jean Harlow was a Hollywood Actress who was famous for her beauty and charm. Born on March 3, 1911, Jean was recognized as a sex symbol in the industry and was known as the "Platinum Blonde". She earned this title for her hair and strong screen presence.
Early Life
Jean was born to Harlean Carpenter in Kansas City, Missouri and spend a lavish childhood. As a child she attended social circles in her mother's company and soon acquired a mature out look in life. In the year 1923, her mother accompanied her to attend Hollywood School for Girls, with the hopes of becoming an actress. Soon, Jean developed attraction for Mcgrew, heir to a large fortune. After her marriage she moved to Los Angeles. Soon, her mother joined her back again and she signed the first casting role for the FOX studio.
Career
Jean's first appearance was in the film Honor Bound, and was paid $7 a day. Other smaller roles followed soon and she was soon a star.
In 1929, she shot for the movie Hell's Angel. It was after this picture, Jean got her first major break with the MGM studios. Harlow began to gain more attention when she appeared in The Public Enemy (with James Cagney), Goldie, The Secret Six (with Wallace Beery and Clark Gable), and Platinum Blonde with Loretta Young.
With the MGM studios, she silenced her critics with her role in Red-Headed Woman, for which she received a salary of $1,250/week, and Red Dust, her second film with Clark Gable. These films showed her to be much more at ease in front of the camera and presented her acting skills as a comedienne.
While filming Saratoga in 1937, Jean collapsed on the sets and was rushed to the hospital, diagnosed with body poisoning. She died just days later, at the age of 26.
