Biography
Jean-Alesi is a complete formula-one racer who has dedicated his life in the profession of formula racing. Alesi was born in Avigon, Vaucluse and completed his graduation to single seaters only. This graduation was completed through French Renault 5 championship. He was looked as an up-coming star in 80s and won 1988 French Formula 3 title. In 1989 he again gained title of International Formula 3000 and he had overtaken Erick Comas. Although the scenario at that time was a tie but Alesi won on the basis of better points finishes. His first debut was in 1989 French Grand Prix which he finished fourth.
In 1990, at the race in American Grand Prix he led the first 30 laps in front of Senna. He came second in Monaco Grand Prix and by the middle of the season his name was respected by the top teams for his services in 1991. A confusing situation occurred when Ferrari, Williams and Tyrell were claiming the driver and that too in a very short period of time.
Jean had a dream of driving for Italian team and that came true when he signed with Ferrari and got opportunity to drive with a well known and experience French teammate Alain Prost. He came to learn many things from the experiences of other drivers and also had maximized his chances of winning the championship.
Alesi seems to be very soft-hearted person, but after his performance at Phoenix in 1990, his career was looked for its longevity. Though he only gained victory at 1995 Canadian Grand Prix in Montréal, Quebec on his 31st birthday. This lead was possible when Michael Schumacher went under some electrical problems. In 1996, Alesi and Gerhard Berger swapped places with Michael Schumacher who joined Ferrari at that time. Alesi left Ferrari due to the internal politics after 2 seasons and drove for midfield teams in his final career days. He ended his career with Jordan in 2001.
But still the days were not over and Alesi again regained a title of a successful driver in the DTM, where he finished fifth with his Mercedes in 2002 championship and adding one victory also. He scored two victories in 2003 and repeated the scenario once again.
He retired from DTM after finishing the 2006 season coming in 9th place.
Alesi is having a wine yard near Avignon and is a wine connoisseur. He lives with his Japanese wife Kumiko Goto, who was an actress and a singer and also has two children.
