Biography
Jane Curtin is a comedienne and actress. She was most famous during the seventies when she appeared on Saturday Night Live as one of the original cast line up. Since then she has occasionally appeared in movies, and more often in television shows where she has made frequent guest star appearances and has starred in two series, "Kate & Allie" (for which she twice won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress) and "3rd Rock from the Sun".
Jane Curtin was born in Wellesley, Massachusetts in the year 1947. Her birthday is the sixth of September. When she was twenty one years old, Jane Curtin dropped out of Elizabeth Seton Junior College (having only received her Associate degree) and joined "The Proposition", a comedy group with which she performed for four years.
In 1975, Jane Curtin joined the original cast of the new sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live". She was on the show for the first five years, leaving after the 1979 - 1980 season. Her characters on Saturday Night Live were generally uptight straight-laced characters put off by the other comedians' zany antics. Jane Curtin was one of the first anchors of the "Weekend Update" segment of Saturday Night Live, and also is remembered for appearing in the "Point-Counterpoint" segments and the Conehead sketches.
After leaving Saturday Night Live, Jane Curtin starred in "Kate & Allie" through the mid eighties for which she was twice named Outstanding Lead Actress in the Emmy Awards of 1984 and 1985. A decade later in the late nineties, Jane Curtin played Dr. Mary Albright on the series "3rd Rock from the Sun". She has also appeared in Broadway plays such as a 1981 production of "Candida", and a 2002 revival of the famous American play "Our Town". She has also appeared in the 1993 "Coneheads" movie and contributed her voice to the computer animated film "Antz".
As of early 2007 Jane Curtin continues to work on television and to appear occasionally in films.
