Biography
Jamie Foxx is a comedian, R&B singer, and actor. Starting his career in stand up comedy with impressions, Jamie Foxx went on to appear in dramatic film roles. He is currently best known for playing world famous musician Ray Charles in the critically acclaimed biopic Ray. He has also recently appeared in a starring role opposite Tom Cruise in the successful dramatic thriller "Collateral".

Jamie Foxx was born Eric Marlon Bishop in Terrell, Texas in the year 1967. His birthday is the thirteenth of December. In his twenties, Jamie Foxx moved to Los Angeles and started performing music as well as doing stand up comedy acts at open mic nights for comedy clubs. While trying to get onstage at comedy clubs, he invented the name Jamie Foxx as one of a number of "unisex names" he put on the call list when he realized that only girls were being called up to perform. In 1991 he began a regular appearance on "In Living Color", the sketch comedy series created by the Wayans brothers that helped to launch the careers of Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey (the only white man on "In Living Color"). During his time on "In Living Color", Jamie Foxx did dozens of impressions including Arsenio Hall, Bill Cosby, Don King, Eddie Murphy, Jaleel White, James Brown, Lionel Ritchie, Mike Tyson, Prince and Snoop Dogg.

After starting a career as a dramatic actor in 1999's "Any Given Sunday", Jamie Foxx continued appearing in a range of comedic and dramatic roles, having his best year in 2004 when he appeared in both "Collateral" opposite Tom Cruise and in the starring role of "Ray". He was nominated twice that year for the Academy Award, and became the third African American in history to win the Academy Award for Best Actor.

As of early 2007 Jamie Foxx continues to work in film roles and comedy. He has also relaunched his singing career with "Unpredictable", his first new album since the mid nineties which has reached the number one chart position in the United States and the top ten in the United Kingdom.
