Biography
Jamie Bell is a young actor. Despite having had a short career he has appeared in a number of notable roles, including starring in the film "Billy Elliot" as a boy who starts taking dancing lessons secretly when his father believes he is training to become a boxer.
Jamie Bell was born in Billingham, England in the year 1986. His birthday is the fourteenth of March. He attended the Stagecoach Theatre School while growing up (deciding that he was interested in acting when he was nine years old), and learned ballet from the age of six. Many people in his family are dancers including his sister, mother, aunt and grandmother.
His best known performance came in 2000 when he starred in "Billy Elliot". Because he grew up learning ballet dancing and had to keep it a secret from other kids at school to avoid being made fun of, Jamie Bell had a particular interest in the role which paralleled his own life in many ways. He was able to win the lead role in a casting process that saw 2,000 applicants. From his performance in "Billy Elliot", Jamie Bell won the BAFTA for Best Male Performance and was the second person in history (after Christian Bale in "Empire of the Sun") to be named Outstanding Young Actor by the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures.
Since "Billy Elliot" and his various awards, Jamie Bell has appeared in the movies "Deathwatch", "Nicholas Nickelby", "Undertow", "The Chumscrubber", and in a minor part in the recent Peter Jackson remake of "King Kong". "The Chumscrubber" was another starring role, where Jamie Bell played a teenager who kidnaps the younger brother of his recently deceased best friend (and drug dealer), to obtain the drugs that his friend had hidden. It was a dark comedy, but did not do very well with audiences.
As of early 2007 Jamie Bell continues to work in film acting and his upcoming appearances will be in the films "Hallam Foe" and "Jumper".
