Biography
James Woods is an American actor who has appeared in numerous critically acclaimed movies. He is best known as a prolific and talented character actor and is not well known for starring roles. Nonetheless he has been nominated for the Academy Award and has won the Emmy Award three times over his career.
James Woods was born in Vernal, Utah in the year 1947. His birthday is the eighteenth of April. After graduating Pilgrim High School, James Woods intended to become a fighter pilot at the United States Air Force Academy but his dream was shattered when his hand was badly injured by broken glass, causing him to lose his dexterity (this also led him to learn to be ambidextrous). James Woods ended up dropping out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology his senior year to become an actor.
Since the early seventies, James Woods has consistently given strong performances as characters that have tended to be intense and / or untrustworthy. His first appearances were in the films "All the Way Home", "The Way We Were", "The Choirboys" and "The Onion Field". During the eighties he appeared in "The Black Marble", "Videodrome", "Once Upon a Time in America", "Against All Odds", "Cat's Eye", "Badge of the Assassin", "Salvador", "Best Seller", and "In Love and War". In 1989 he hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live.
James Woods' career continued to progress strongly throughout the nineties, although he fired his agent at one point when he found out he had been offered the lead role in Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" and not been told about it. During the nineties, James Woods tempered his intense bad guy characters with voice over work, playing the villainous Hades in Disney's cartoon feature film "Hercules" and since doing voice overs for "The Simpsons", "Family Guy", and the short lived cult classic "Clerks" cartoon series.
As of early 2007 James Woods continues to work prolifically in film, and to provide voice over work for occasional video games and cartoons. He has most recently appeared on television as the star of the law drama "Shark".
