Biography
James Ellroy is a writer, best known for his top selling crime fiction novels. His most famous books include "L.A. Confidential" and "Blood on the Moon" and "The Black Dahlia". Many of his crime novels have been adapted into films, and continue to be adapted.
James Ellroy was born in Los Angeles, California in the year 1948. His birthday is the fourth of March. James Ellroy's mother was murdered under mysterious circumstances when he was ten years old. The unsolved crime, and his receiving the book "The Badge" for his next birthday, began his interest in crime fiction. During his younger years James Ellroy was often in trouble with the law and without a home. He finally found a job working as a golf caddy, which allowed him to live peacefully and have plenty of time to write novels on the side. Until he sold his first five books he would continue caddying.
Over the eighties and nineties James Ellroy released a number of books that would sell well and become classics of the modern crime fiction genre. These books include "Killer on the Road", "Blood on the Moon", "Because of the Night", "Suicide Hill", "The Black Dahlia", "The Big Nowhere", "L.A. Confidential", "White Jazz" and "American Tabloid". "L.A. Confidential" was adapted into a movie in 1997 that was well received by fans and critics alike. He seems to consider it the best film adaptation of one of his books. Many of James Ellroy's novels exist in overarching stories that span three or four books, such as his "Lloyd Hopkins Trilogy" or the "L.A. Quartet". He is also known for writing all his books long hand on legal paper.
As of early 2007 James Ellroy continues to write steadily and last year "The Black Dahlia" was released in a film adaptation that did reasonably well in theaters and was well reviewed.
