Biography
James Earl Jones is an American actor. He has a long film career spanning several decades and is best known for his deep distinctive voice. Besides being a talented and well reviewed actor in movies and stage productions, he is cast for a great amount of voice over work for commercials and documentaries. He is also famous for having produced the voice of the villain Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" movie trilogy.
James Earl Jones was born in Arkabutla Township, Mississippi in the year 1931. His birthday is the seventeenth of January. After graduating from the University of Michigan and enlisting in the Army, which stationed him in Alaska, James Earl Jones started his film career in the mid sixties with his first role as a B-52 crewman in "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb". He became better recognized when he played the part of Jack Jefferson in "The Great White Hope". James Earl Jones was also involved in the early production of "Sesame Street" and is credited as the first celebrity guest on the series.
Many notable roles were played by James Earl Jones over the following decades as a result of his booming voice and forceful presence. Some of his better known roles include Darth Vader in "Star Wars" (where only his voice was used) and Thulsa Doom in "Conan the Barbarian". He has also appeared famously in "Field of Dreams", "The Hunt for Red October", "Clear and Present Danger" and "Patriot Games". He has contributed voice acting parts to the popular Disney cartoon feature "The Lion King", to the computer generated cartoon movie "Robots", and repeatedly on popular primetime comedy cartoon "The Simpsons". James Earl Jones has also appeared in Shakespearean stage roles such as "Othello", "King Lear", "A Midsummer Nights Dream", "Measure for Measure" and "Hamlet".
As of early 2007 James Earl Jones continues to work in film acting roles and voice overs. He has been awarded the Emmy three times and the Tony award twice.
