Biography
James Cameron is a director / producer / screenwriter. He has been a driving force behind the creation of several of the most popular science fiction movies of the modern era, and was the director of the highest grossing film of all time, "Titanic". His most famous movie is "Terminator 2".
James Cameron was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada in the year 1954. His birthday is the sixteenth of August. James Cameron first became interested in becoming a filmmaker during his days studying physics at Cal State-Fullerton. Inspired by the Cal State-Fullerton film archive and the movie Star Wars, James Cameron got his first job in the movie industry as a screenwriter.
After a few years working on art direction and effects for movies such as "Escape from New York", James Cameron directed his first film "Piranha II: The Spawning" in 1981, getting the chance to direct as a replacement for a departing director. During his time directing this movie, James Cameron had the idea for the "Terminator" films come to him in a dream. After considering Lance Henriksen (who would end up appearing as a cop in the first "Terminator", and a cyborg in "Aliens"), James Cameron decided on Arnold Schwarzenegger to play the evil robot from the future. "The Terminator" was much more successful than the studio expected. On the strength of this, James Cameron was able to get many jobs directing sci-fi pictures that he wrote the scripts for, including "Aliens" and "The Abyss".
"Terminator 2: Judgment Day" was released in 1991, breaking the record for the biggest opening weekend for an R rated film. It also introduced the idea of sophisticated computer special effects to the world. Computer effects had been used before in a limited capacity in films like "Star Wars" and "Tron", but the "morphing" effects used on human characters in "Terminator 2" gave people the impression that now anything was possible.
James Cameron continued to direct hits with the Schwarzenegger movie "True Lies", and "Titanic", the romance movie about people meeting before the sinking of the Titanic, which became the highest grossing film ever.
As of early 2007 James Cameron continues to direct movies and has various upcoming science fiction projects.
