Biography
James Brolin is an actor, producer and director. He is best known for his starring roles in several television shows including "Marcus Welby M.D.", "Hotel", and "Pensacola: Wings of Gold". His career has lasted over forty years.
James Brolin was born in Los Angeles, California in the year 1940. His birthday is the eighteenth of July. His birth name is James Kenneth Bruderlin. As a boy, he was not originally interested in acting, but was encouraged by his friend and future actor Ryan O'Neal. After he graduated from high school, he quickly began to find television roles, changing his name to James Brolin. James Brolin first appeared in an episode of the TV series "Bus Stop" at the age of twenty one, then moved onto shows which included "Love, American Style", "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", "Batman", "Twelve O'Clock High", "Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law" and "The Long, Hot Summer". He was cast into the first of his long running TV drama roles as Dr. Steven Kiley on the top rated medical drama "Marcus Welby, M.D.". James Brolin won an Emmy and two Golden Globes during his years on the show, also appearing in films such as "Westworld" and "Skyjacked" during this time, and later would come close to receiving the film role of James Bond when Roger Moore briefly considered stepping down.
James Brolin's next television drama success was in the show "Hotel", during the mid eighties. He received two Golden Globe nominations during the run of the show, which lasted for five seasons. He was successful again after a dry spell in the late nineties when he played Lt. Col. Bill "Raven" Kelly on "Pensacola: Wings of Gold", a show on which he was able to act as a director and producer. Around the same time, he met singer Barbra Streisand and would marry her two years later.
As of early 2007 James Brolin continues to work in television. He has recently played a number of political TV roles on shows like "The West Wing", "The Reagans", and "Wedding Wars" (a cable movie about the gay marriage controversy in America).
