Biography
Jada Pinkett Smith is an actress and singer. She is best known for her television role as Lena James in the successful American sitcom "A Different World". Recently she has become a more high profile film actor with a major character role in the two Matrix sequels.
Jada Pinkett Smith was born in Baltimore, Maryland in the year 1971. Her birthday is the eighteenth of September. Jada Pinkett Smith went to college at the Baltimore School for the Arts. There she majored in theatre and became close friends with Tupac Shakur. After graduation Jada Pinkett Smith studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts for a year before pursuing her career.
In 1991, Jada Pinkett Smith appeared in the sitcom "A Different World", which was successful for several years and brought her some recognition. While her first notable role was in a television series, Jada Pinkett Smith has mostly pursued film roles since then and has appeared in roughly two dozen, including "Menace II Society", "The Inkwell", "Jason's Lyric", "Set It Off", "The Nutty Professor", "Princess Mononoke" (a Japanese anime where she voice acted the English dub), "Scream 2", "Bamboozled", and the "Matrix" sequels.
In recent years, Jada Pinkett Smith has become the lead singer in a rock band called Wicked Wisdom which toured with Ozzfest 2005 and have released on album.
As of early 2007 Jada Pinkett Smith continues to act in films. She has most recently appeared in the Tom Cruise / Jamie Foxx action movie "Collateral", in a voice role in the computer animated film "Madagascar" (and its upcoming sequel), and in the soon to be released "Reign Over Me", starring Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. She has won the Image Award for Outstanding Actress three times and the Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress three times.
