Jacques Villeneuve was born Jacques Joseph Charles Villeneuve in St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Canada in the year 1971. His birthday is the ninth of April. When Jacques Villeneuve was eleven, his father died in a Grand Prix qualifying race. Both his father and uncle have been successful race car drivers. At the age of eighteen, Jacques Villeneuve competed in the Italian Formula 3 series, starting his professional racing career.
From 1989 to 1993, Jacques Villeneuve competed in Italian Formula 3, Japanese Formula 3, and the North American Toyota Atlantic tournament. In 1994, Jacques Villeneuve started racing Champ cars, and after making some improvements to the design of the car, Jacques Villeneuve finished second in the Indy 500. The next year he performed strongly winning the Indy 500 and being signed to Frank Williams' Formula One team.
In his first Formula One Grand Prix in 1996, Jacques Villeneuve finished second. He set various records for his rookie year that have not been beaten as of early 2007 - winning four races his rookie year, scoring 78 points for the year, and placing on the podium eleven times. The next year in 1997, Jacques Villeneuve would become the world champion of Formula One, winning against Michael Schumacher in the final race to secure his position.
For the next few years Jacques Villeneuve had a hard time finding victories as he switched to the British American Racing team.
