Biography
Jack Nicholson is a famous actor who is among the most highly awarded and respected actors in the world. His most famous appearances have been in the movies "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Batman" and "The Shining".

Jack Nicholson was born John Joseph Nicholson in Neptune, New Jersey in the year 1937. His birthday is the twenty second of April. In high school, Jack Nicholson was voted "class clown" by his classmates. As a child, Jack Nicholson was raised by his grandparents who never told him that they were not his actual parents He didn't learn the truth until he was interviewed by a journalist who had researched him in 1974.

In 1958 at the age of twenty one, Jack Nicholson made his first film appearance in the movie "The Cry Baby Killer" where he played a delinquent in trouble. Jack Nicholson went on to play mostly dark and neurotic characters. The sixties were a difficult period for Jack Nicholson to find acting roles, and he also worked writing screenplays for several years before appearing in a breakthrough role in the film "Easy Rider". For "Easy Rider", Jack Nicholson was nominated for an Oscar. The next year Jack Nicholson cemented his reputation in the movie "Five Easy Pieces". In "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", Jack Nicholson played a convict who fakes insanity to be transferred to an asylum for the remainder of his sentence, without realizing that the asylum could hold him indefinitely. In "The Shining", based on a Stephen King novel, Jack Nicholson famously played a father who goes murderously insane under the influence of a remote haunted house. Jack Nicholson also appeared in the international hit "Batman" directed by Tim Burton, playing the part of the villainous Joker.

As of early 2007 Jack Nicholson continues to work steadily in film and his recent roles have included "About Schmidt", "Anger Management" and "The Departed". He has been nominated for more Academy Awards than any other male actor.
