Biography
Jack Black is an actor, comedian and musician. He is best known for his roles in a number of big budget Hollywood comedies and other movies, as well as for being one half of the comedy rock band Tenacious D.
Jack Black was born in Redondo Beach, California in the year 1969. His birthday is the twenty eighth of August. Both of his parents are rocket scientists. Jack Black dropped out of UCLA his second year to pursue an acting career after excelling in drama during his high school years at the Crossroads School.
During the early nineties, Jack Black began appearing in a range of small roles in films and television shows. Movies that he acted in through his early career include "True Romance" (the first movie produced from a Quentin Tarantino script, from which Jack Black's scene ended up being cut), "Demolition Man" (where he played a wastelander), "Waterworld" (where he appeared briefly as a pirate watercraft pilot) and "The NeverEnding Story III" as Slip, Leader of the Nasties.
Jack Black found larger roles in the late nineties appearing in "Mars Attacks!", "The Cable Guy", "Bio-Dome", "The Jackal" and "High Fidelity". He also appeared in an episode of "The X-Files" and on the acclaimed comedy television series "Mr. Show". During this time Jack Black's band Tenacious D, formed with friend Kyle Gass, became successful. The appearance in "High Fidelity" opposite John Cusack raised Jack Black's profile and allowed him to start starring in comedies including "Shallow Hal", "School of Rock" and "Orange Country". His ability to balance comedic and dramatic parts led to him being selected to play director Carl Denham in Peter Jackson's remake of the classic "King Kong".
As of early 2007 Jack Black continues to appear in movies and has recently been seen playing himself in the comedy "Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny" with band mate Kyle Gass.
