Jaci Velasquez is a pop singer. She is known for her contemporary Christian style music and has been nominated for the Grammy and Latin Grammy. She has also won the Dove Award given by the Gospel Music Association (previously known as the GMA Music Award).
Jaci Velasquez was born in Houston, Texas in the year 1979. Her birthday is the fifteenth of October. Her family was musical and religious, with both of her parents being Christian music singers. At the age of ten, Jaci Velasquez's family decided to tour America with their Christian music act, during which time Jaci Velasquez met an agent from Myrrh Records, one of the most successful Christian record labels in the United States.
In 1996, Jaci Velasquez released her first CD, "Heavenly Place". Her debut album produced five number one hits and sold over a million copies. Two years later she joined the Sony Latin label and recorded the album "Llegar a Ti", a Spanish language album that allowed her to develop a fan base in the Latin American community. The single "Llegar a Ti" from this album was the first Christian single to reach number one on the Billboard Latin music charts.
Over the course of Jaci Velasquez's decade long career, she has had sixteen number one hits on Christian radio. She has been nominated for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop Female Performance and she has won seven Dove Awards. Several of Jaci Velasquez's albums have gone platinum. Since the turn of the millennium, Jaci Velasquez has begun to appear in film as well, acting in the movie "Chasing Papi" in 2002. Other films she has appeared in since then include "Doc" and "The Three Wise Men".
As of early 2007 Jaci Velasquez continues to tour and record new music. She also continues to act in films, although the number of movies she can work in is limited as a result of her busy music career.
