Biography
J.D. Fortune is a rock singer. He is from Canada and has recently become the lead singer of the Australian rock band INXS, winning the position as the prize of the reality TV show "Rock Star: INXS".
J.D. Fortune was born Jason Dean Bennison in Mississauga, Ontario in the year 1973. His birthday is the first of September. J.D. Fortune grew up in Nova Scotia and became interested in music as a child when he heard his grandfather sing. He took on the name J.D. Fortune because his father left the family and Fortune is the maiden name of his mother. J.D. Fortune dropped out of high school without graduating and pursued a career in rock music. Finding success after several years performing in Canadian venues such as the Friendship Festival, and as a songwriter for television, he found a job in 2005 to appear on "Rock Star: INXS".
"Rock Star: INXS" was a reality show charged with locating a new singer for the rock band INXS. During the eighties and nineties INXS was successful, but their lead singer committed suicide in 1997. For many years the band was unable to find a suitable replacement. Finally, in 2005, a reality show contest was devised where viewers would vote for their favorite contestants after a weekly contest singing popular rock and roll songs. J.D. Fortune ended up winning as the underdog for his final two performances of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and "What You Need". J.D. Fortune also wrote the original song "Pretty Vegas" during his appearance on the show.
Since winning the lead singer position in the band INXS, J.D. Fortune has appeared on the album "Switch". The first single released from "Switch" was his original song "Pretty Vegas" from the reality show. The singles from the album made the top ten in the United States music charts. As a whole, the album has been fairly well received and it is believed that INXS can regain their former popularity with the new line up.
As of early 2007 J.D. Fortune continues to record and tour with Australian rock band INXS as the lead singer. He is known among INXS fans as "The Kid".
