Biography
Ivan Lendl is a famous pro tennis player. Throughout the eighties and nineties, Ivan Lendl was one of the top players in the world and was ranked World No. 1 officially in 1983. He is considered one of the greatest pro tennis players of all time.
Ivan Lendl was born in Ostrava, Czechoslovakia in the year 1960. His birthday is the seventh of March. Both of his parents were successful tennis players, among the best in Czechoslovakia. At the age of eighteen, Ivan Lendl became a professional player and was named World No. 1 junior player in his debut year when won the boy's singles titles at Wimbledon and the French Open.
During the eighties, Ivan Lendl won numerous singles titles and quickly developed a worldwide reputation as one of the game's greatest overachievers. In 1982 he had a winning streak of forty four games at one point. Throughout these early years he quickly amassed dozens of tournament victories. One of his best remembered triumphs from this time is his win against John McEnroe at the 1984 French Open, where Ivan Lendl won his first Grand Slam title. The next year Ivan Lendl won eleven out of seventeen tournaments in what can possibly be called his best year.
In 1986, Ivan Lendl moved to the United States as a result of being threatened by the Czechoslovakia Tennis Association to be confined to home games after he competed in Sun City, South Africa. Since then he has become a United States citizen as of 1992.
Over the course of his career, which ended in 1994, Ivan Lendl won one hundred and ten singles titles and six doubles titles. The only Grand Slam singles title that Ivan Lendl never won was Wimbledon. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2001.
As of early 2007 Ivan Lendl plays golf and in recent years he has put together the "Ivan Lendl Celebrity Golf Tournament" for charity.
