Isabelle Adjani is a French film actress. She has won the Cesar Award (France's equivalent to the American Academy Award), and has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She is best known for her appearances in French blockbuster movies and in the 1981 Merchant Ivory film "Quartet".
Isabelle Adjani was born in Paris, France in the year 1955. Her birthday is the twenty seventh of June. When Isabelle Adjani was a young girl growing up in Paris she acted in amateur theatre. She practiced classical theatre acting, becoming well known originally for playing the part of Agnes in local productions of the comedy "L'�cole des femmes". At the age of twenty two she started pursuing a career as a film actress and found success in the movie "La Gifle (The Slap)" two years later. In 1975, Isabelle Adjani starred in "The Story of Adele H.", becoming internationally known. For her 1981 role in the Merchant Ivory film "Quartet", Isabelle Adjani was named Best Actress at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
Isabelle Adjani has also won the Cesar Award, the French equivalent of the Academy Award, four times. The movies that she has won the Cesar for are "Possession" (a horror film), "One Deadly Summer", "Camille Claudel" and "Queen Margot". In the early nineties, Isabelle Adjani was named one of the world's '50 Most Beautiful People' by America's People Magazine.
As of early 2007 Isabelle Adjani continues to appear in film roles. Other movies that Isabelle Adjani has acted in include "Barocco", "The Tenant", "The Driver", "Nosferatu", "The Bronte Sisters", "Antonieta", "Subway", "Ishtar", "Diabolique", "Adolphe" and "Bon Voyage". While her performances have been critically well received, Isabelle Adjani has focused mostly on her private life over the past ten years and has taken time off between films to pursue relationships and family. She has two sons by former relationships, Barnabe Nuytten and Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis.
