Biography
Isabella Rossellini is a famous actress, filmmaker and model. She is best known for her appearance in the David Lynch film "Blue Velvet" (for which she won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead), but is also known for being involved in conservation efforts and philanthropy.
Isabella Rossellini was born in Rome, Italy in the year 1952. Her birthday is the eighteenth of June. She grew up between Rome, Paris and Santa Marinella. She moved to New York when she turned nineteen and got a job as a TV reporter for Radio Audizoni Italiane, the Italian public service television network, also doing translation work on the side. When she turned 28 in the late seventies she started a modeling career and was very successful, appearing in magazines such as "Elle", "Vanity Fair", "Marie Claire" and "Harper's Bazaar". As most models begin their careers at a very young age, generally in their teens, Isabella Rossellini's success in the fashion industry was somewhat unusual. After fourteen years representing the cosmetics company Lancome, Isabella Rossellini was controversially dropped in favor of someone younger.
Parallel to her modeling career, Isabella Rossellini appeared in many Italian and Hollywood movies. She started working as an actress in the late seventies (around the time she was married to famous director Martin Scorsese), appearing in Italian films such as "Il Prato" before finding great success in American movies like 1985's "White Nights". In 1987 Isabella Rossellini appeared in "Blue Velvet" as a nightclub singer, for which she received that year's Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead. She has appeared in numerous films and television programs since then, including TV drama "Chicago Hope" and the movies "Death Becomes Her" and "Fearless". She has been nominated for the Golden Globe and the Emmy Award.
As of early 2007 Isabella Rossellini continues to appear in films. She has also published a memoir, a book about the fashion photography industry, and a book about her father Italian director Roberto Rossellini.
