Indira Varma is a television and film actress. She is best known for her appearances in "Kama Sutra: a Tale of Love" and has appeared in many films and television series over a decade spanning career.
Indira Varma was born in the town of Bath in Somerset, England in the year 1973. Her parents were Indian and Swiss. As a young woman she acted in Bath's local Musical Youth Theatre Company, which has produced numerous famous members including Jennifer Biddall, Will Thorp, Andrew Lincoln and Adam Campbell. Indira Varma's film career began in 1996 when she was 23 years old. She quickly rose to fame with a starring role in the film "Kama Sutra: a Tale of Love". While immediate success in this role increased her visibility, public perception may have slowed her career as a dramatic actor. Over the following decade, however, Indira Varma continued to appear in numerous dramatic roles in smaller films and television shows including "Attachments", "Psychos", "In a Land of Plenty" "The Canterbury Tales", "Love Soup", "Broken News", "3 lbs.", "Torchwood", "Little Britain" and "Rome". "Bride and Prejudice" in 2004 was a Bollywood style musical and introduced her to the world of celebrity in India. She has also made a recent appearance in the high profile and long awaited film sequel "Basic Instinct 2", which nonetheless flopped at the box office.
As of early 2007 Indira Varma continues to act in film and television roles. Her recent stint as Dr. Adrianne Holland on the medical drama "3 lbs." came to an end in late 2006 when the series was canceled. Currently she can be seen playing the part of Niobe in the series "Rome", a critically acclaimed historical drama produced in conjunction by the BBC and HBO, in which she has appeared in nearly fifteen episodes.
