Biography
Incubus is a United States alernative rock band formed in 1991. They are best known for songs like "Drive" and "Wish You Were Here". The five piece band is based in Calabasas, California. Brandon Boyd, vocalist, Jose Pasillas, drummer and Mike Einziger, guitarist, were the first members of the band and met in elementary school. They formed the group and invited Alex Katunich, a bassist, to join them. The band's name is actually the name for a mythological demon what seduces sleeping women. From 1993-1994, their math and music teacher booked music dates for them. Their first paying gig was in Hollywood at the Roxy theatre. Soon after they were performing at clubs like Whisky and The Troubadour. They met Jim Wirt, a local record producer and musician in 1995. He offered to let them record their first album in his studio, however, because of a lack of interest from the record label, the band soon moved on and released the album on their own label. In 1995 Gavin Koppell, a.k.a. DJ Lyfe, joined the group full time. That year, the group finally landed a record deal with Immortal/Epic Records. Their first major tour was with Korn in Europe. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. was the groups second album, released in 1997. That year they toured with 311 for six weeks. Early in 1998, the group asked Gavin Koppell to leave. Later that year, Chris Kilmore, joined up. Soon after they booked gigs with System Of A Down and Black Sabbath. That year they also performed at Ozzfest. Their third album, Make Yourself, was released in 1999 and the group began touring with Primus and Buckethead. "Privilege" and "Pardon Me" were the first songs released. At first, "Pardon Me" was not liked, but the acoustic version began gaining popularity. The "Make Yourself" album hit Gold Status (500,000 copies sold) in 2000. "Morning View", their fourth album, was released in 2001 and rose to #1. "A Crow Left Of The Murder" was released in 2004 and "Light Grenades" was released in 2006. The band continues to tour and release albums.
