Biography
Ian Anderson is a Scottish singer/songwriter and musician. He is best known as the leader of rock band Jethro Tull. He is sometimes called the voice of Jethro Tull.

Ian Anderson was born in Dunfermline, Fife on August 10, 1947. His family lived in Edinburgh for several years, but the family moved to Blackpool in northwest England in 1959 when he was eight years old. At the Blackpool College of Art, he passed his O-levels. In addition to guitar, he plays the flute and harmonica.

In 1963, Ian Anderson formed his first band called The Blades, choosing several school friends to play different musical instruments. Playing primarily soul and blues, the band soon changed their name to the John Evan Band. They broke up a few years later. Ian Anderson moved to Luton where he met Clive Bunker and Mick Abrahams. Along with Glenn Cornick, they created the first incarnation of Jethro Tull. The group had a string of hit albums in the 1960s and 1970s including This Was, Stand Up, Aqualung and Too Old To Rock and Roll: Too Young To Die. The group continued to have hits through the 1980s and 1990s. In 2005 the band released Aqualung Live.

In addition to his work with Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson has released several solo projects including Walk Into Light, Divinities: Twelve Dances with God, The Secret Language of Birds and Ian Anderson Plays the Orchestral Jethro Tull.

In 2006 he received the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement and an honorary Doctorate of Literature at Heriot-Watt University.

In 1970, Ian Anderson married Jennie Franks. They divorced in 1974. In 1976, he married Shona Learoyd. They live in England with their two children.
