Biography
Hugh Jackman in an Australian actor and producer who is best known for his roles in the X-Men series of movies. He won a Tony Award for his role in the stage production The Boy From Oz, and in 2005 won an Emmy Award for hosting the Tony Awards show.
Hugh Jackman was born in Sydney, Australia on October 12, 1968. He has four siblings. When Hugh was eight years old, his mother left the family in Australia to return to England. In Australia, he attended Pymble Public School and Knox Grammar School. He attended Wahroonga, an all boys school, next. He graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney with a communications degree. He fell into acting when he took a required college course, but soon became very interested in it. He used part an inheritance to attend and graduate from WAAPA of Edith Cowan University in Perth.
In 1996, Hugh Jackman received his first break when he was cast in Snowy River: The McGregor Saga. He starred in the stage production of Summa Cabaret in 1998 during the Midsumma festival. Outside of Australia, Hugh Jackman received his first role in the Royal National Theatre production of Oklahoma! In London, and in 2002 he appeared on stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City as Billy Bigelow in Carousel. In 2004, he received a Tony Award for the Broadway production of The Boy From Oz, he went on to host the Tony Awards show in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In 2005 he won an Emmy Award for hosting the awards show.
Hugh Jackman is also a regular on the big screen. In 1999, he filmed his first movie Erskineville Kings. Roles in several blockbuster movies followed including the X-Men movies, Kate and Leopold, Someone Like You, Van Helsing and The Prestige. He has also been featured in animated movies Happy Feet and Flushed Away.
In 2005, he and assistant John Palermo formed the Seed Productions production company. Their first project is Wolverine, set for release in 2008.
2007 and 2008 are shaping up to be busy years for Hugh Jackman. He is set to star in several films including Rebound Guy, Australia, Wolverine, The Amature and The Coming.
