Biography
Howie Dorough is a singer and musician who is best known as a member of the boy band Backstreet Boys. His nickname is Howie D.

Howie Dorough was born in Orlando, Florida on August 22, 1973. He showed an early interest in music and performing and by age six was performing in local productions. His first show biz move was to participate in the Orlando production of The Wizard of Oz, a string of other musicals followed. He continued acting in plays and musicals through his high school career through his activities with the theatre and chorus departments.

Along with AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson and Nick Carter, Howie Dorough made a splash on the pop music scene in 1996 when the Backstreet Boys released their self-titled debut album. In 1997, the group released their second album, Backstreet's Back and in 1998, the album flew off store shelves and up the charts with hits like Everybody (Backstreet's Back) and All I Have To Give. The groups third album Millennium spawned hits such as I Want It That Way, Larger Than Life and Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely. The group spent 84 weeks on the Hot 100 charts from 1999 through 2000. In 2000 they released album number 4, Black and Blue; a greatest hits album was released next, followed by Never Gone in 2005.

Howie Dorough is the countertenor of the group, singing the highest harmony parts and is often heard harmonizing with the lead singer for specific songs.

How Dorough founded The Dorough Lupus Foundation in 1998 after his sister died of the disease. The Foundation has raised more than $500,000 for Lupus research.
