Howard Stern is a radio and television personality, author and actor. He is best known for his radio show The Howard Stern Show broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio.
Howard Stern was born in Long Island, New York on January 12, 1954. He attended Roosevelt Junior High School until her transferred to South Side High School. He graduated in 1972 and went on to attend Boston University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications in 1976. While there he worked for and was fired from the campus radio station.
After graduation, Howard Stern worked as a disc jockey and later program director for WRNW in Briarcliff Manor, Westchester County, New York, and in 1978 began his first morning show format on Hartford, Connecticut's WCCC-FM. From Connecticut, Howard Stern moved to Detroit, Washington D.C. and later returned to New York City. A 1984 guest appearance on Late Night with David Letterman launched Howard Stern from radio host to full-fledged personality.
In 2004, Howard Stern announced that he was leaving terrestrial radio in favor of a no-holds-barred and expletives-allowed run on satellite radio. His five year deal with Sirius Satellite Radio went into effect in 2006.
In addition to his radio show, Howard Stern is an author. He has published two books. The semi-autobiographical books Private Parts and Miss America. Both were ranked on best-seller lists.
Howard Stern is one of the highest U.S. radio personalities. He is also the most fined personality in American radio broadcast history.
In 1978, he married college sweetheart Alison Berns. They have three daughters (Emily Beth, Deborah Jennifer and Ashley Jade). Alison and Howard Stern were divorced in 2001. In 2007 he announced his engagement to long-time girlfriend and model Beth Ostrosky.
