Holly Hunter is an Academy Award winning actress who is best known for her role in The Piano.

Holly Hunter was born in Conyers, Georgia on March 20, 1958. She showed an early interest in acting and eventually earned a drama degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Once she had earned her degree, Holly Hunter moved to New York City to pursue acting full time.

In 1981, Holly Hunter landed her first big role in The Burning and in 1983 starred in the television drama Svengali. Her breakthrough role came in 1987s Broadcast News. She was nominated for the Best Actress award from the Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards. The same year, she starred in Raising Arizona. In 1999 she starred in Always. A string of hits followed into the 1990s including Miss Firecracker, The Firm and The Piano. Her role in 1993s The Piano earned Holly Hunter the Best Actress Academy Award and the Best Actress Award at the Golden Globes. She was nominated for Best Supported Actress from at the Academy Awards for her role in The Firm. She has continued to act in movies such as Home for the Holidays, Copycat, A Life Less Ordinary, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Incredibles and Little Black Book.

Holly Hunter has also won awards for her work in television dramas. She won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her roles in Roe vs. Wade in 1989 and for 1993s The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom.

She married Janusz Kaminski, a cinematographer, in 1995. They divorced in 2001. She began seeing actor Gordon MacDonald in 2001; they are still together. Holly Hunter gave birth to twin boys in 2006.
