Hilary Swank is an Academy Award winning actress who is best known for her Oscar wins for the movies Boys Don't Cry and Million Dollar Baby.
Hilary Swank was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 30, 1974. She has one brother. She was raised in Bellingham, Washington where the family lived in a trailer park. Hilary Swank showed an early interest in acting and won her first role in the stage production of The Jungle Book when she was nine. In addition to acting, Hilary Swank is a talented athlete. She competed in the Junior Olympics and the Washington State swimming championships. At one time she was ranked 5th in the state in all-around gymnastics. When she was 13 her parents separated and Hilary and her mother moved to Los Angeles so that she could follow her acting dreams.
In 1994 she was cast in family favorite The Next Karate Kid, and in 1997 earned a recurring role on the Fox drama Beverly Hills, 90210. Several made-for-television movies followed and when she was cut from the series, Hilary Swank auditioned for and won her role in 1999s Boys Don't Cry, which became a break out role for her. The role led to her first Academy Award nomination and win for Best Actress.
Several film roles followed including The Affair of the Necklace, The Core and Insomnia. Then, in 2004, she won the role of Million Dollar Baby. The role pushed Hilary Swank to her second Oscar nomination and win for Best Actress, putting her in the company of only a handful of actresses to be nominated and win the Best Actress Oscar twice. Those actresses include Vivien Lee, Sally Field and Jodie Foster.
2006 brought more movie roles including The Black Dahlia and Freedom Writers. In 2007 she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
