Hilary Duff is an actress and singer who is best known for the television show Lizzie McGuire. The television show was such a favorite of the tween crowd that is spawned a movie.
Hilary Duff was born in Houston, Texas on September 28, 1987. She became interested in acting with her mother's encouragement. Both Hilary Duff and her sister Haylie Duff acted in local theatre productions including The Nutcracker Suite. They were also cast in several local television commercials. Her first major role was in Casper Meets Wendy, a 1998 direct-to-video movie. In 1999 she was cast in the made for television movie The Soul Collector, the part brought her first award, The Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Movie. In 2001, Hilary Duff became a household name by winning the title role in Lizzie McGuire, a family sitcom on the Disney Channel. Made-for-TV movie Cadet Kelly followed on the Disney Channel in 2002.
Once cast as Lizzie, Hilary Duff began acting in films including the 2002 release Human Nature, but the 2003 release of Agent Cody Banks garnered more attention. 2003 was a big year for Hilary Duff. Films Cheaper by the Dozen and The Lizzie McGuire Movie were released and both were successes at the box office. In 2004 A Cinderella Story and Raise Your Voice were released and in 2005 a sequel Cheaper by the Dozen 2 hit theaters. Next, she starred in The Perfect Man and in 2006 starred with her sister in Material Girls. Hilary Duff has several films lined up for 2007.
In addition to acting, Hilary Duff is a talented singer. In 2002 she released her first album, a Christmas album. She contributed songs to soundtracks for Santa Clause 2 and The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Her second album Metamorphosis was released in 2003. It reached number one on U.S. and Canadian music charts because of singles "So Yesterday" and "Come Clean". She proceeded to tour in 2003 and sold out all of her shows. At the 2004 World Music Awards, she won Best New Artist and at the Kids Choice Awards she won Best Female Artist. Hilary Duff contributed to the Disneymania album in 2004, on which she and sister Haylie sang a cover of the Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed". In 2004 she released her third album, Hilary Duff, on which she co-wrote several tracks. Her fourth album, Most Wanted, was released in 2005. Her fifth album, called Dignity is set to be released in 2007.
Hilary Duff launched a clothing line in 2004. The line has extended to include fragrances, furniture and jewelry aimed at teens and tweens. She also had a celebrity doll released in 2004. Hilary Duff is involved with several charities, including efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
