Biography
Hikaru Utada is a Japanese pop singer and songwriter best known for her 1999 album First Love and its number one single Addicted to You. The single sold 1.7 million copies.

Hikaru Utada was born in New York on January 19, 1983 to a musical family. She showed an early interest in music and made her first professional recording at 12. Her first solo project "I'll Be Stronger" was the first song that Hikaru Utada wrote; it was released under the pseudonym Cubic U. Her big break came with the 1999 recording First Love. The album shattered many records and is still showing strong numbers in Japan. Since 2000 she has won Japan's Song of the Year award twelve times. She has also received Golden Disk Pop/Rock Album of the Year for several of her albums.

Hikaru Utada ranks 24th on the Top 100 Japanese Pop Artists list. In 2006, she ranked at number ten on HMV's Top 30 Best Japanese Singers of All Time list.

In 2004 she released her first English speaking North American album. Exodus reached number one on the world charts, and continued to chart for 20 weeks. However, the album only sold 30,000 copies in the United States. Her 2006 release Ultra Blue charted at number one in Japan.

In 2002, Hikaru Utada married Kazuaki Kiriya, a photographer and film direction. He went on to direct several of her music videos including Final Distance, Hikari, Deep River, Be My Last and Passion. The two divorced in 2007.

Hikaru Utada loves to play Tetris. She has said that her current high score on the Endless Mode is 99,999,999.
