Helen Hunt is an award winning actress who is best known for her role as Jamie Buchman in the sitcom Mad About You. She has won Emmy, Golden Globe and Academy Awards for her acting roles. She is one of only a handful of child-stars who continued acting into adulthood.
Helen Hunt was born in Culver City, California on June 15, 1963. Her father was a director and action coach, and she showed an early interest in acting. She began her career as a child actress in the 1970s with roles in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Swiss Family Robinson and a guest appearance on The Facts of Life. She continued acting through the 1980s in made for television movies and as a recurring character on St. Elsewhere.
The popular 1990s sitcom Mad About You became Helen Hunt's star vehicle. She won Emmy Awards for her role in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. In 1999 she was the highest paid television actress in history, earning a reported $1 million per episode. While with the sitcom, Helen Hunt stretched her acting wings with roles in several films.
She appeared in Twister before being cast in 1998s As Good As It Gets. She won an Academy Award for the role. Helen Hunt took a break from films after the role and appeared in the stage production go Twelfth Night. 2000 brought more movie roles: Dr. T & The Women, Pay It Forward, What Women Want and Castaway. In 2003 she returned to Broadway to appear in Life x 3.
In 2006, Helen Hunt appeared in the film Bobby and filmed Then She Found Me. She is one of only two actresses to win a Golden Globe, an Emmy and an Academy Award in the same year (1998), and the only actress to win four consecutive Emmy awards.
