Heike Gabriela Drechsler is a German track and field athlete who is best known as one of the most successful female long jumpers.
Heike Gabriela Drechsler, nee Daute, was born in Gera, Germany, then known as East Germany on December 16, 1964. As a teen, she was active in the Free German Youth and in 1984 was elected to the Volkskammer of the GDR.

She is one of the most successful long jumpers and was also a very talented sprinter. Heike Drechsler is the only female athlete to win two Olympic Gold Medals in the long jump. She won the gold in 1992 and in 2000. She also won two World Championships for long jumping in 1983 and 1993. In the 1987 World Championships she won gold medals in the long jump and the 200 meter sprint. She also held two world records.

In 1986, Heike Drechsler equalled Marita Koch's fastest 200 meter sprint world record and set two long jump world records. By 2000 she had marked over 7 meters for a long jump in more than 400 competitions, that is more than any other female athlete. In 1999 she was nominated for the Athlete of the Century; the award actually went to Fanny Blankers-Koen.
