Biography
Heather Nova is a poet, singer and songwriter. She is best known for her album Glow Stars.
Heather Nova, born Heather Allison Frith, was born on July 6, 1976 in Bermuda. As a child, her family sailed the Atlantic and Caribbean before settling for several years in the New England area of the United States. Heather Nova showed an early interest in music and began playing both guitar and the violin at an early age. She wrote her first song at the age of 12. She attended the Putney School in Putney, Vermont where she graduated in 1983. She enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design to study film in 1989. While there she also attended poetry classes and continued to work on her music. She eventually dropped film to concentrate on her music.
After graduation from college, Heather Nova moved to New York City, but when music labels showed little interest in her work she moved to London, England. She lived in London for twelve years. Her first album Heather Frith was released in 1990; about a year later she changed her name to Heather Nova, a name that was simpler to pronounce throughout European countries. In 1993, she released her first album under the "Heather Nova" moniker; it was called Spirit in You, with some success. She followed the album with a European tour and in 1994 released her third album, Oyster. A live album, Live from the Milky Way, was released in 1995. In 1998, Heather Nova joined the North American Lilith Fair tour to promoter her fifth album, Siren. Several television series and films licensed her music. In 2000, Heather Nova released a second live album, Wonderlust. A song from her 2001 release South was featured in the film Serendipity and in 2005 she released her seventh album, Redbird.
In addition to music, Heather Nova is a talented poet. In 2002 she self-published a book of poetry called the sorrowjoy. She lives in Bermuda with her husband, music producer Felix Todd. The couple have a son.
