Hayden Christensen is a Canadian actor who is best known for his roles in the Star Wars films as Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a. Darth Vader.
Hayden Christensen was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on April 19, 1981. His family moved to Thornhill, Ontario, Canada when he was young. There, Hayden Christensen attended Unionville High School and studied drama at the Arts York Program. He was actually discovered while with his sister who was shopping for an agent after landing a television commercial. As a young child he appeared on several Canadian television programs. His first role was in the Canadian series Family Passions when he was 12 years old. In the 1990s, he crossed the border and began auditioning for and being cast for American film roles.
Hayden Christensen had a small part in The Virgin Suicides. His first brush with fame came with his role in Life As A House, which earned nominations for Golden Globe and SAG awards. In 2000, at the age of 19, Star Wars made him a household name. As Anakin Skywalker, Hayden Christensen portrayed the man who would become Darth Vader. In 2002 he was named to People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People list. In 2003, he starred in Shattered Glass and in 2005 completed the Star Wars prequels with Revenge of the Sith. In 2005 he starred in Factory Girl opposite Sienna Miller. Upcoming films include Virgin Territory and Awake. He is also set to star with Samuel L. Jackson in the film Jumper to be released soon.
Before concentrating on acting, Hayden Christensen was a competitive AAA hockey player in Canada. He also played tennis and had a strong interest in architecture.
