Hal Sparks is an American actor and comedian, best known for his role as Michael on the American television series Queer As Folk.
Hal Sparks was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 25, 1971. His family moved soon after his birth and he was raised in Kentucky until he was fourteen. After high school, he moved to Chicago. While making the rounds of Chicago comedy clubs, Hal Sparks was voted the city's Funniest Teen. Soon after he became a member of Second City Comedy Troupe. In the late 1980s, the actor moved from the mid-western city to Los Angeles where he made the jump to television and film acting.
Hal Sparks hosted the E! networks Talk Soup and later earned the role of Michael on the Showtime network's Queer As Folk. From roles in television, Hal Sparks auditioned for and won several small film roles including the movies Dude, Where's My Car, Spider Man 2 and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star. From movies, he became a game show emcee with the short-lived Treasure Mall. He was also the captain of the Chicago Hitmen dodgeball team on the Game Show Network. Hal Sparks is also a regular guest on VH1's I Love... series of shows, and was one of five celebrities to appear on the celebrity-reality show Celebrity Paranormal Project.
Besides acting, Hal Sparks is using his musical muscles as the lead singer and guitarist for metal band Zero 1 (also known as the Hal Sparks Band), which released their first album in 2004. His band led him to be cast as a contestant in the first season of Celebrity Duets.
