Ha Ji-won is a Korean actress and singer who is best known for her role in the horror film, Phone.
Ha Ji-won was born Jeon Hae-rim in Seoul, South Korea on June 28, 1979. She began her acting career as a supporting cast member for Korean television productions before winning a break through role in 2002. That year she won the lead role in the Korean horror flick Phone. Since making a name for herself in horror roles, Ha Ji-won has taken on roles in films such as Sex is Zero, one of Korea's most popular comedies in 2002. In addition to film roles, she starred in the television drama Damo. Her role as the lead detective on the television show and another film role, Something That Happened in Bali, quickly moved her onto Korea's list for A-list actresses. However, roles in movies such as Reversal of Fortune, 100 Days with Mr. Arrogant and Love, So Divine were not as popular and are likely responsible for her falling down Korea's radar. She 2005 she moved to reclaim her former fame with a role in Daddy Long Legs, a film based on Jean Webster's novel.
Her awards include the 2000 Pusan Film Critics Association Awards Best New Actress for her role in Truth or Dare, the 2000 Blue Dragon Best Supporting Actress Award and the 2004 Baek Sang Best Actress Award. In 2006 she was nominated for and won two awards. The KBS Drama Best Actress Award and the award for 2006 KBS Best Couple (with Jan Geun Suk).
