Biography
Gwen Stefani is a Grammy award winning singer and songwriter who probably best known as the lead singer of the band No Doubt. She has also had a very successful career as a solo artist and has her own fashion line.
Gwen Stefani was born in Fullerton, California on October 3, 1969, but grew up in the Anaheim area where she attended Loara High School. She was active with the swim team and the marching band in school before her brother introduced her to ska and new wave music as a teenager. In 1992 she debuted as the front woman for the band No Doubt but overnight success was slow in coming. It wasn't until the band's release of the 1995 album Tragic Kingdom that Stefani and No Doubt became household words. The album sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.
The singles "Just A Girl" and the somewhat autobiographical "Don't Speak" (penned to help Gwen Stefani get over breaking up with fellow band member Tony Kanal) were the most popular songs from the album and spawned a new interest in ska and new wave music around the world. The 2000 release of album Return of Saturn was not as popular but the band gained momentum with the 2002 release of Rock Steady, an album with a heavy reggae influence. Post Rock Steady, No Doubt took a break and Gwen Stefani began exploring the solo waters.
In 2002, her collaboration with rapper Eve on the single "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" won the Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. In 2004 she released her first solo effort Love. Angel. Music. Baby., which debuted at number seven on Billboard 200 album charts. The album peaked at number five in 2005 and spawned hits like "Rich Girl" and "Hollaback Girl". The girls She released her second solo album, The Sweet Escape in 2006.
Gwen Stefani isn't just a talented musician. In 2006, L.A.M.B. fashion line debuted to much success from young girls. The line showcases clothing similar to what Gwen Stefani wears every day. She also starred as Jean Harlow in the Martin Scorsese film The Aviator in 2004.
Gwen Stefani married then-Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale in 2002. The two have a son, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, who was born in 2006.
