Biography
America's red-necked woman is no stranger to pain.
Her songs reveal what she herself experienced firsthand having been raised by a teenage mom.
Working in bars before she could drive legally, Gretchen Wilson was almost made for country singing. And she related to these stars growing up.
Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Tanya Tucker were her idols. It was only natural then her songs took on a folksy appeal of their own.
If You've Got Leaving On Your Mind, All Jacked Up, Red-Necked Woman and some of her other famous tunes. They all bring her fans back to her humble country roots.
Born in a the rural town of Pocahontas, a pit stop for most but home to 727 people, Wilson didn't have much to look forward to as a kid where a girl's biggest aspiration was to work full-time in the town's greasy spoon. Her parents, mom 16 years old and dad nowhere to be found, weren't really role models either with her mom struggling, on many occasions, to simply pay rent.
Surprisingly enough, Wilson was able to pull herself away from the trailer park and pig farm lifestyle and found herself living the American dream. At least, the country music American dream.
Her career already includes a record deal with Epic Records and a chart topping album released in 2003 and called Here for the Party. The album's first single Redneck Woman was released in early 2004 and quickly became a hit, reaching the top of the Billboard Country's single charts and number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Following the success of Redneck Woman, Wilson decided to release the album's title track Here for the Party which also mirrored the success of her first release.
Internationally, the album reached number two on the Australian country charters and the top 50 of the Austrlian charts.
A short climb up her career ladder and Wilson was ready to release All Jacked Up which peaked at number one on both the Top 200 and country album charts.
