Biography
Greg Rusedski is a tennis champion who has made as many people angry as he himself openly gets from time to time.
Although born in Canada, Rusedski decided he did not have to remain loyal to his Canadian roots and left the country for Britain in 1995, consequently upsetting his Canuck fans.
He got a taste of that frustration on many occasions but particularly in 1999 at the US Open when he reportedly Rusedski made insulting comments about his opponent Todd Martin at the time. He had displayed a similar temper at a competition in 2002 when his opponent at that time was the source of his contempt. Prior to that he was heard calling down Pete Sampras, saying that he believed he would lose. Rusedski even swore at an umpire in 2003 at Wimbledon when he had not been allowed to replay a point after fan interference.
And if that were not enough, Rusedski has been plagued, during his career, with a variety of injuries in recent seasons.
The setbacks have not been significant enough overall, however, to stop him from excelling at some tournaments.
He reached the US Open final in 1997. That same year, Rusedski was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. Two years later he won the Grand Slam Cup in 1999, and it was around this time his record for the fastest recorded serve at 149 mph (239.7 km/h) was reported widely. This record no longer holds as player Andy Roddick broke it. By the end of 1999, he was ranked 10th in the world listings.
In 2005, he was defeated by Sweden's Joachim Johansson in the second round at the Wimbledon tournament. The following year he improved dramatically and his world ranking did as well, rising from 118th in 2004 to 40 in 2006.

Rusedski married Lucy Connor in a Roman Catholic ceremony at Downside Abbey in England in 1999.
