When trying to categorize singer, songwriter and musician Glenn Danzig, a lot of fans have a difficult time.
He has a career that has been influenced by punk rock, heavy metal, blues and the classics.
His songs have been covered by artists ranging from Roy Orbison to Metallica.
And his look has always been somewhat dynamic as well.
It all adds up to a unique artist who can withstand the test of fickle tastes and time.
At the age of 11, Danzig was already into the music business. He first worked as a drum roadie and later became a bass player for local garage bands.
Throughout his teenage years, he sang for several local bands and by 1977 he had started his own band called The Misfits.
In the years to follow, the punkish Misfits released several singles, three albums and established a camp following. Despite their success, the band had to disband in 1983 do to irreconcilable differences. Danzig was not too concerned as he claimed to be unsatisfied with their musical abilities anyway.
By 1987, Danzig had started his self-named band and by the following year, they already had albums out. Danzig still wasn't satisfied with the way things were going and went through a complete change in 1996. He found new band members, signed a new label and explored a whole new musical direction which involved infusing heavy metal with industrial rock.
Much of 2005 was spent touring for Danzig. He was trying to improve sales for the band's Circle of Snakes album and the Blackest of the Black Festival. Members of the former Misfits joined him for part of the tour. He told press it was the closest thing to a Misfit reunion tour.
