Biography
Make no mistake.
She may have a typical guy's name but she has portrayed some of the most feminine and vivacious women on screen in a career that is as lengthy as it is colorful.
From the time she started performing in 1964 in the original production of Up With People stage show, she has been working audiences into a frenzy with her free-spirit and no nonsense attitude when it comes to pleasing her characters.
Her Broadway debut was in 1974 when she performed in Love For Love and her television and film career began a few short years later with television movies such as Too Far to Go and Orphan Train.
By 1980, the three-time married actress had been recognized professionally for her talent with a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a musical. She was spotted by Oscar-winning director who put her on the big screen with 1982's The World According to Garp.
The next year, Close received more accolades for her portrayal of yuppie Sarah in The Big Chill.
In 1984 and the following year, she was getting even busier and performed in a number of different films including; The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, The Stone Boy, Jagged Edge with Jeff Bridges and The Natural which earned her a third Academy Award nomination. That same year, she also received her first Emmy nomination for her appearance in the television movie Something About Amelia.
What got movie fans truly talking about the scary seductress on screen was her role in the 1987 film Fatal Attraction. Close received her fourth Oscar nomination, Best Actress, for this movie where she terrified audiences when she turned into the notorious bunny-boiler after being dumped by leading co-star Michael Douglas. That same year, Glenn gave birth to her daughter Annie Maude Starke.
For the years to follow, Close continued making award-winning films.
In more recent years, she has stayed busy with her appearances in The Lion in Winter, Le Divorce, Nine Lives, Heights and The Stepford Wives.
