Few have as familiar a face as Gisele Bundchen. The Brazilian supermodel, who some say is the highest paid model in the world, can be seen all over the globe on billboards, magazine covers and television ads.
She represents more than 20 different brands from North America, Europe and Asia.
And recently, she could add her name to the Guinness Book of World Records as the richest supermodel in the model with an estimated net worth of $150 million. Funny enough, modeling was not at the top of Bundchen's to-do list when she was growing up. In school, she dreamed of becoming a professional volleyball player who would eventually join the Brazilian team Sogipa. That dream wouldn't fly however when talent scouts were already noticing her at the age of 14 despite the fact she was little on the skinny side.
All the typical model career stepping stones started falling into place after that. Bundchen placed second in an Elite Look of the Year contest. Later, when she was 16, she moved to New York to begin her modeling career which started with the magazine Fashion Week. From there, she spiraled into stardom with walking the best catwalks, promoting the best brands and winning the biggest awards like Vogue Model of the Year in 1999.
In May 2006, Bundchen signed her next multi-million dollar deal, this time with American giant Apple Computer. She starred in an advertising campaign to promote the new Macintosh line.
If all this isn't enough, she has her own line of sandals with shoe company Grendene. The Ipanema, as its known, has been a resounding success with more than 100 million pairs sold since 2001. Bundchen also owns the hotel the Palladium Executive located in the southern part of Brazil. Romantically, Bundchen has been linked with Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio. The two reportedly met at a fashion party in Los Angeles in 2000 and had an on and off relationship from that point forward. Their first public appearance occurred at the 77th Academy Awards ceremony and their very public breakup occurred shortly after that.
As far as working in movies, Bundchen has not indicated much interest. She has however made special appearances in a couple of recent films including the 2006 comedy The Devil Wears Prada.
